Pastor Steven Heilmann
Pastor was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on September 26, 1952, the son of George and Hazel Heilmann. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School through the sixth grade. He grew up in a Christian home and was active in the youth ministry leadership of the church.
Graduating from East High School in 1970, he attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska, graduating in 1974. Steve then accepted a call as Teacher – Minister of Evangelism at Ascension Lutheran Church and School in Landover Hills, Maryland.
After four years of teaching, Steve was led by God to enter Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. Graduating in 1982, he accepted a call as Associate Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Omro, Wisconsin.
On June 12, 1982, Steve married Barbara Sellke of Traverse City, Michigan. Their marriage has been blessed with two children, Naomi and Joel.
In 1995, God called Steve to Zion Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, before coming to Grace Lutheran in Morris in January, 2001.
Pastor Steve is very interested in discipleship ministry “admonishing every person and teaching every person with all wisdom so that we may present every person complete in Christ” (Colossians 1:29). He is always on the lookout for Bible studies that apply God’s Word to real life in practical ways.
Pastor Steve is a part-time chaplain with the Morris Police Department, and serves with the Citizens Police Academy Alumni of Morris. He is also an Election Judge in Grundy County.
