Rev. Craig Benson, Pastor
Grace to you from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
On August 1, 2018 I began my ministry at Grace Lutheran Church to serve as their next pastor. My wife, Deb, and I thank God for opening this new ministry to us and we look forward to the coming years of adventure, service and spiritual growth among the people at Grace Lutheran Church and the surrounding communities.
I enjoy helping others grow in their faith in Jesus Christ, spending time together studying God’s Word and in the ministry of prayer!
“But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” (Acts 6:4, NASB)
I am also truly blessed to be married to Deb and we have 4 adult children and 2 grandchildren! Family is important to us and we enjoy spending time together whenever we can.
In my younger years my father was in the US Air Force so my family lived on or near air bases around the US. In my teen years we lived on a small farm near Kenyon, Minnesota. During my teenage years I have enjoyed the fellowship of other Christians my age. I wanted to know more about God, the Bible, living the Christian life and especially more about the savior of the world, Jesus Christ! After high school I attended Northwestern Bible College in St Paul and the Free Lutheran Bible School in Minneapolis for 1 year each.
While attending the Free Lutheran Bible School I claimed this Bible verse as my life verse: “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.” (Colossians 2:8, NASB)
I then attended and graduated from Moorhead State University in Minnesota with a BA degree in history. After college I joined the US Air Force and served as a navigator and Electronic Warfare Officer flying in bomber aircraft for 8 years.
At this time in my life I discerned a call from God to become a pastor and left the military to train for the pastoral ministry at the Free Lutheran Seminary in Minneapolis. After seminary I was blessed to serve 2 churches in Iowa for 10 years and 2 churches in South Dakota for 6 years.
I have also served as a Chaplain in the Air Force Reserves at 4 US air bases and overseas in the United Arab Emirates. In my last assignment I was the Reservist to the Command Chaplain at the Headquarters for the Air Force Materiel Command at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, near Dayton, Ohio and retired from military service in December of 2018.
Let’s stay focused on Jesus Christ! He is coming again soon! Are you ready to meet him?
“Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.” (Matthew 24:42, NASB)
